Sagres Fort, Portugal
After a short drive from the lighthouse at Cape St Vincent we arrived at the Fort of Sagres. An impressive stone built structure with spectacular views from its strategic vantage point looking out onto the Atlantic Ocean. As you walk around the fortress you definitely get a strong sense of the history associated with this important defensive position that protected Portugal from the North African invaders.
Cape St Vincent, Portugal
Lovely tourist spot with far reaching views of the dramatic cliff landscapes and out over the Atlantic Ocean.
The Tired Travel Dog
Upon our arrival at Cape St Vincent, the moment I open the door she announces her arrival at the most southwestern point of Europe with a load of barking at anything and everything that moved. Didn't matter whether it was person, dog, tumbleweed, if it moved it was barked at. I hope they don't take it personally, it's just a typical Estrela Mountain Dog doing what they do best.

Torre, Serra Da Estrela, Portugal
Torre is the highest point on mainland Portugal and is located deep within the Serra Da Estrela Natural Park. I tested the campervans capabilities climbing to the summit of this mountain where we encountered snow and icy conditions and very steep roads which required serious concentration to avoid going anywhere near the edge of the mountain roads. At the top there were people skiing as well as a collection of gift shops, eateries and a bar. This place is definitely worth the effort and climb to get here and was a memorable stop on my tour of Portugal and the Estrela Mountains.
Sabugueiro
A walk through the streets of Sabugueiro in the Serra Da Estrela mountains of Portugal. This is a small town I will remember for its ruggedness and character as well as the strong stench of burning brakes as vehichles descend the steep mountain roads into this stopping point on the way to and from Torre, the highest mountain in Portugal.
Sacred Lands Of The Estrela Mountain Dog
An Estrela Mountain Dog explores her ancestral home territory as we take a break from our drive high up into the Serra Da Estrela Natural Park of Portugal. The views are fantastic and you get a real sense of being away from it all the higher up into this rugged terrain you venture.
