The Lake District
The Lonely Highland Cow
Apparently on it's own, this lovely cow was sitting happily munching away on some grass by "The Struggle" road leading to the Kirkstone Pass from Ambleside.

"The Struggle" In Cumbria
A winding road heading up into the hills from Ambleside. A beautiful drive with some steep sections and lovely views of the surrounding hills. I wonder where the name "The Struggle" comes from? I can only image in winter with deep snow and ice it certainly would be a struggle travelling along this route.

A View From "The Struggle"
As the challenging road winds through stunning scenery and hills, this tree caught my attention from the road and I just stood looking across the valley as the hill tops were encased in low level cloud giving it a peaceful but moody feel with signs there was bad weather closing in or certainly a lot of rain which is almost guaranteed at some point of any visit to the Lake District.

Cruise Boat On Ullswater, Lake District
After taking a walk around Ullswater and ending up at Howtown, we took a leisurely cruise aboard one of the frequent boat services that link the locations around the lake. A really relaxing way to see the lakes with hot and cold drinks as well as food available on board.

A View From The Boat
My friend enjoying the scenery from aboard one of the cruise boats on Ullswater in the Lake District. This one in particular was taking us from Howtown to Pooley Bridge. A lovely end to a long walk around the lake, now able to relax and have a drink and some food while the boat took us to our final destination.

My Estrela Mountain Dog taking a moment to watch a couple of paddle boarders whose tiny figures can be seen just left of centre of the image. In the vastness of the lake, the two people seemed so tiny and I think my dog was kind of puzzled why two people were in the middle of a huge lake on floating boards.

I love these old stone and slate buildings the way they blend in with the walls and scenery so typical of the Lake District. These buildings certainly stand the test of time and are built to last.

Tweedies Bar And Restaurant
After a long but gentle walk from Ambleside to Grasmere, this dog friendly country pub is always a welcome sight for some delicious food and drink. Serving a great selection of beers with a pleasant and friendly atmosphere, this pub is definitely a favourite destination of ours to re energise before the journey back to Ambleside.
