Jersey Channel Islands
Port Of Gorey Tower And Sea Wall
The port of Gorey is still in regular use and has a strong sea wall protecting the boats from the full force of the sea. This side of the wall is only accessible at low tide and with huge tidal ranges and not being too familiar with the times and characteristics of the area I didn't waste too much time taking these photos as I always take a cautious approach to unknown dangers even though it appeared I had plenty of time. From an early age I was always taught to be prepared and have an escape route planned whenever walking on unfamiliar beaches. I was tempted to start walking up towards Gorey Castle on the wrong side of the sea wall but thought better of it as stories of the fast incoming tides make me extremely wary when I don't have an easy straight forward route to safety.

Walkway Between St Helier Marina And The Open Sea
This walkway runs along the perimeter of the marina and is a dividing wall protecting the moored boats from the heavy seas that frequently hit Jersey. On the right is Elizabeth Castle in the distance, slightly obscured by the railings and is only accessible via the causeway which is frequently cut off by the incoming tide.. On the left is the popular marina full of private yachts and power boats. I like the way the path separates the uncontrolled and sometimes rough sea on the right from the safe, calm and secure marina on the left.

Leisure Boat At Gorey Bay
A boat moored on the beach at Gorey Bay in Jersey with Gorey Castle visible up on the hill in the background. There are numerous boats moored and allowed to dry out as the tide recedes until they are refloated again as the tide returns. I can spend hours walking around harbours and boats looking at the endless variety of vessels all designed for different purposes.

Boat Named Peter Michael, Bonne Nuit Bay, Jersey
Fishing boat moored in the protective bay of Bonne Nuit, Jersey. Beyond the harbour wall lies the often rough and unforgiving sea that has claimed many boats and lives over the years. There was something about this boat that was calling out for me to take the photograph. I always admire the bravery of fishermen and women who work the surrounding seas in all weathers and sea states to make their living.

Boats Moored In Bonne Nuit Bay
A number of boats safely moored in the bay of Bonne Nuit, Jersey. Protected from the open sea by the large harbour wall built to protect the vessels from the large and powerful waves that frequently impact the island in the winter months. Bonne Nuit is a picturesque little bay and well worth a visit.

Fishing Boat Jersey J375
J375 is a small fishing boat moored on the beach at Bonne Nuit in Jersey. I couldn't help feeling how small and vulnerable this boat looks to be venturing out into the frequently rough seas that surround the island.

Corbierre Lighthouse At Sun Set
This wild and rugged location at Corbierre on the West Coast of Jersey is a fantastic place to see powerful waves rolling in from the Atlantic Ocean. This is without doubt one of my favourite places on the island. I visit this location every time I come to see my family and I spend a great deal of time just sitting watching the incoming tide and exploring the area with my dog but always cautious of the encroaching sea that completely surrounds the lighthouse and submerges the causeway cutting off any option of escape. Corbierre is a must see for anyone visiting the island and sunsets at this location are simply stunning and a magnet for local and visiting photographers.

Gorey Bay Boats
A number of small boats afloat at high tide in Gorey Bay on the East coast of Jersey in the Channel Islands. This part of the island is more protected from the big Atlantic waves that frequently impact the West of the island and as such has a completely different feel to the wind swept, wild and rugged West coast of the island.

Gorey Bay And Port
An old port at the base of Gorey Castle on the East coast of Jersey in the Channel Islands. Once an important hub for the oyster fishing industry, Gorey now serves as Jersey's second port to St Helier and is still in use. The bay is a shelter for a number of small boats and craft.

Gorey Castle And The Port Of Gorey
Located on the East of the island, Gorey Port and castle is an attractive tourist attraction steeped in history and was once an important hub for the oyster and fishing industry of the island. The town has a number of cafes and hotels with a pleasant beach and promenade. The seafood and fresh crab served locally is simply delicious. I spent numerous days walking along Gorey beach with my dog and exploring the numerous dog friendly cafes and bars next to the port.

A View Of Gorey Castle
From Gorey beach a view of Gorey Castle can be seen in the distance from behind this man made heavy iron structure stretching from the shoreline towards the sea.
